Share your military spouse story:
I met my husband, Matthew, while line dancing. He was trying to impress me by dancing in the opposite direction, and who would have thought that just six months later we would be married and preparing to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary this July? I understand the struggles that my fellow military spouses face when trying to maintain a career while frequently relocating with their service members. Many times, we find ourselves reaching out to other military spouses to serve as emergency contacts just to enroll our children in childcare. The friends I've made through this journey have become closer to me than family, and I truly cherish the bonds we've formed.

Share an example of your leadership experience within the military community:
As the President of the Hardin County National Pan-Hellenic Council, our focus is on creating initiatives that uplift our youth and provide them with the resources necessary to succeed. One of our primary goals is to offer scholarships that support students in need. By collaborating with local organizations, businesses, and community members, we have developed programs designed to help students navigate the complexities of the college application process. I also serve as the Vice President of Theta Kappa Sigma of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated. We believe that mentorship can be a powerful tool for empowerment. Our programs are designed to help young women develop leadership skills, gain confidence, and pursue their passions. By connecting them with strong, positive female role models, we aim to inspire the next generation of leaders.

Describe your involvement in the military community:
Involvement- I organized the Fort Knox Middle/High School girls and boys' basketball team booster club served as the club's president, served on the Fort Knox School board and volunteer with the local Red Cross Dress for Success program.

My commitment to supporting the military community extends beyond mere words; it is reflected in my active involvement with various organizations dedicated to fostering resilience, empowerment, and support for those who serve our nation. I strive to create a positive impact and strengthen the bonds within our community. Mentoring the youth is a deeply fulfilling aspect of my community involvement. I believe that by nurturing the next generation, we can empower them to become responsible and engaged citizens. I strive to ensure that our military community feels valued, supported, and connected to the broader society.

What do you hope to accomplish with the AFI Military Spouse of the Year® title?
I planned to use my voice to establish working relationships with corporations and offer professional job opportunities for spouses in the government and corporate fields. The title of AFI Military Spouse of the Year would allow the opportunity to reach a larger audience of military and local families. If, granted this noble opportunity to serve my military community in this capacity I will continue to serve with my community with prayerfully grace and a smile.
