Share your military spouse story:
Nearly 18 years ago, I embraced the role of an Army spouse, embarking on an uncertain journey with our five children. Though leaving the comfort of family was difficult, I wouldn’t change a thing. That decision opened the door to lifelong friendships that feel like family. Our journey began with a short stay at Fort Bliss, TX, where I first grew curious about military life. Soon after, we moved to JBER, AK—a move that terrified me as someone who had never lived outside Texas. Initially, I planned to isolate myself during my husband’s deployment, but those plans quickly changed. I met incredible friends who made Alaska feel like home. In 2013, we settled at Fort Carson, CO, where we raised our children through their school years. Over the course of five deployments, I often doubted my ability to endure, but each challenge revealed my strength. I’ve built a village of amazing friends who have supported me every step of the way, showing me the power of community during life’s toughest moments. Feeling compelled to give back, I became actively involved in the military community early in our journey. Volunteering with impactful non-profit organizations allowed me to contribute to something bigger than myself, bringing me joy and fulfillment. These experiences have not only strengthened my sense of purpose but also created bonds that will last a lifetime. This journey has taught me that the hardest chapters often lead to the most rewarding experiences. Through adaptability, faith, and the relationships I’ve built, I’ve found strength, community, and a deep sense of gratitude.

Share an example of your leadership experience within the military community:
I have embraced many leadership roles that have profoundly shaped my journey. As a Girl Scout Leader, I discovered the joy of mentoring young girls and making a meaningful difference in their lives. It is important to me that young girls know how important that they are in the lives of others. I want them to have the strength to stand up for what they believe in, while making the world a better place. Leading Deployed Love Fort Carson allowed me to support military spouses in building their own communities—a mission close to my heart, having faced similar challenges as a young military spouse. I realized that just by doing something small for others you can make a significant difference in their lives. This year, serving as President of the Spouses' Club has been a journey of personal growth and resilience. Through this role, I aim to inspire strength and foster development among the spouses I work alongside, contributing to a stronger, more connected community.

Describe your involvement in the military community:
Early on as a Family Readiness Group (FRG) leader for my husband’s unit, I recognized the need for young spouses to have a supportive community, particularly during deployments, and committed myself to creating that space. The in 2020, I became a coordinator for Deployed Love Fort Carson, a role that allowed me to support military spouses facing deployment challenges. Together, we built strong support systems—or “villages”—ensuring no one faced those difficult times alone. This year, I proudly stepped in as President of the Mountain Post Spouses’ Club, which has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Leading and fostering camaraderie among fellow spouses has brought me immense pride and joy. Giving back to the community is my passion, and the fulfillment I’ve gained from these roles has been invaluable. These experiences have taught me that a community’s strength lies in its ability to uplift and support one another, and I’m proud to contribute to that mission.

Describe how you support your community:
I firmly believe in the power of building a village. When women come together in their communities, they become a valuable resource not only to themselves but to those around them. By sharing my ideas with the groups I’m part of and listening to the ideas of others, I can better support the community we serve. My hope is that every woman I’ve worked with feels valued, knows they are part of a group that matters, and feels my unwavering support when they need it. As women, we should always have each other’s backs and strive to bring happiness to the lives of others. For me, giving back is the most fulfilling way to spread joy and create meaningful connections.

What do you advocate for? Why?
I believe in being a cheerleader for anyone who needs support. Lifting each other up and straightening each other's crowns is one of the most beautiful acts we can share. Everyone deserves someone who believes in them and wants to help them succeed. Knowing I’ve been that person for someone fills my heart with joy. I also strive to advocate for those who cannot speak up for themselves. Through my respite care for a remarkable young person, I’ve learned invaluable lessons about focusing on what truly matters in life. His resilience and joy have taught me that life is defined by the energy and love we put into it.

How have you spread the message of your platform/advocacy?
Over the past 18 years as a military spouse, I have dedicated myself to making a difference in the lives of others within the community. I often reflect on the times when I was a young military spouse or a young girl unsure of how to find my path. That perspective drives me to be present and supportive for young spouses who are navigating the challenges of a new life or season. I also strive to provide young girls with a safe and empowering space where they can grow, discover their strengths, and learn more about themselves. Watching others find their way and thrive is both my motivation and my reward. I have been on a board of ladies where we work towards making the lives of young ladies more meaningful, and helped them find their worth in the world.

What do you hope to accomplish with the AFI Military Spouse of the Year® title?
My greatest joy comes from making a difference in the lives of military spouses who feel they’ve left their safety net behind and are struggling to rediscover themselves. Helping them grow and embrace self-love is deeply rewarding. Every spouse should know they are a vital part of their community and that their unique contributions—simply by being themselves—can create a meaningful impact. Seeing them thrive fills my heart with happiness and purpose.
