Share your military spouse story:
My journey began when my husband joined The United States Air Force, 13 years ago. This path has been filled with adventures and trials. The military lifestyle brought challenges such as long hours, unpredictable deployments, schedules, and frequent moves that often took us far from family. Each relocation meant starting over, raising our children without nearby support, and navigating new and unfamiliar places.
As we faced struggles, including infertility and reconnections after deployments, I learned the importance of flexibility and perseverance. These experiences taught me that while the road is tough, it is also paved with growth and resilience.
I take pride in my involvement in our military community. I've been an active member of Moms of Preschoolers (MOPS), participated in the Brilliant Minds Homeschool Group, and organized donation drives. However my favorite things to do are filling needs that others may not see like showing up with cleaning supplies for an overwhelmed mom, providing meals when it would provide reprieve, or to plant a memorial garden for a neighbor who lost a child. Engaging in Bible study on base has allowed me to connect with other spouses, forming bonds that alleviate isolation.
Through it all, I’ve become frugal and resourceful, finding creative solutions to challenges or adapting to extreme climates. My motto is, “See a need, fill a need.” I may not always be in the spotlight, but when I see an opportunity to help, I jump at the chance.
I aspire to continue supporting my community, fostering children, and being a reliable friend to neighbors and fellow military families. Each day, I strive to listen and step in wherever there is a gap, bringing comfort and relief in our busy and often overwhelming military lifestyle.
Thank you for this incredible honor.
Share an example of your leadership experience within the military community:
When a mother was overwhelmed, I showed up with cleaning supplies, food, and a babysitter. I also organized meal trains for families going through tough times, and paid for gas or groceries when they needed a little help to get by.
One act that stands out was planting sunflowers for a neighbor whose child had passed away. I spent the night creating a beautiful tribute, and watching their tears of joy when they discovered it was a highlight of my year.
My foster journey began when I heard of a family in a difficult situation on base that needed a place for their child. Although it was unconventional, I couldn’t turn a blind eye and willingly offered our home until they were able to find a resolution.
I believe leadership isn't just about titles or recognition; it's about quietly serving those who need it most. I've embraced a behind-the-scenes approach, making a significant impact through small acts of kindness.
Describe your involvement in the military community:
I have taken the lead in finding formula and baby food and distributing it to families on base, ensuring that those with young children have the essential resources they need. I step up to volunteer whenever asked, including at the Airman’s Attic, helping provide support and resources to service members and their families in need. I have successfully recruited many new families to complete foster care training, addressing the urgent need for more foster homes in our community.
I firmly believe in the importance of building relationships, which is why I engage with our base church. It serves as a vital hub for support and fellowship, and I enjoy meeting neighbors and making new friends. By organizing gatherings and encouraging participation.
I strive to strengthen our community, uplift those around me, and ensure that no one feels alone in their journey. Being involved not only enriches my life, but it also allows me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Describe how you support your community:
I am known in my community for my generosity and willingness to help others. Whenever someone in our neighborhood hears of a family in need, they often turn to me for support. I take this responsibility to heart. Whether it’s providing baby food to new parents or assisting families struggling to make ends meet, I actively seek out ways to bridge gaps and ensure no one is overlooked.
Additionally, I coordinate with local organizations to facilitate donations and volunteer initiatives that benefit our community. I've created a network of friends and fellow military spouses who share my passion for helping others, amplifying our impact. By fostering connections and encouraging participation in community events, I strive to build a strong support system where everyone feels valued and included. Ultimately, I believe that lending a helping hand not only uplifts those in need but also strengthens the bonds of our community, creating an environment of compassion and care.
What do you advocate for? Why?
I advocate for increased support and resources for military families. Having experienced the unique challenges that come with military life, such as frequent relocations and the stress of deployment, I understand the critical need for stability and accessible support within our community.
I focus on mental health awareness, encouraging conversations that destigmatize seeking help and creating safe spaces for families to share their experiences. Support families who are far from home. Helping to bridge the distance between loved ones and alleviate the stress of separation.
I recognize that many families face unexpected needs, such as sudden car repairs or medical bills. I facilitate connections with local resources and charities to help fill these gaps, providing immediate relief and reducing financial burdens.
My advocacy efforts stem from a deep commitment to strengthening our military community and ensuring that every family has the support they need to thrive.
How have you spread the message of your platform/advocacy?
I spread the message of my advocacy platform by genuinely loving and supporting people in the military community. I make it a priority to connect with families, letting them know I'm available and willing to help. This approach fosters trust and encourages open communication.
When I see an opportunity to address issues affecting military families, I speak up—whether it’s advocating for better resources, sharing information, or raising awareness about mental health, childcare, or foster care needs. I believe in the power of grassroots efforts and the importance of being a visible ally.
Through one-on-one conversations, group gatherings, and community events, I create a space where military families feel heard and valued. By being present and actively engaged, I aim to uplift others and build a strong network of support, ensuring that my message resonates effectively throughout the community.
What do you hope to accomplish with the AFI Military Spouse of the Year®
title?
I plan to show others that impactful community involvement doesn't require numerous titles by leading through example.
I’ll share my knowledge on topics I’m passionate about, empowering others in our community. Additionally, I will engage in local discussions, advocating for important issues in informal settings, showing that every voice matters.
Connecting people in my network will be a priority; I’ll introduce individuals who can collaborate or support one another. By consistently sharing my experiences on social media, I’ll inspire others to take individual actions and recognize that making a difference doesn't require formal titles. Together, these efforts will illustrate that meaningful contributions come from genuine connections and individual initiatives.
