Paulette Fryar To Be Honored at Special Awards Luncheon As the 2021 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year®
WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 30, 2021) - Paulette Fryar will be honored as the 2021 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year® (MSOY), in recognition of her outstanding commitment to the military community, at an awards luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 12 p.m. at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, VA.
Video of the awards ceremony will be available.
The highly-anticipated awards luncheon, which draws VIPs from the military and civilian communities, originally slated for May, 2021, had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fryar, who represents the Coast Guard branch of the service, was nominated for the honor by colleagues from the various boards and clubs she has served on. She was chosen following a rigorous selection process that saw the nomination of close to 1000 military spouses from all branches of the military with over 23,000 votes cast. The Spouse of the Year was selected based on the highest combined scores from the popular vote, the Judge Advisory Panel and the Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year® (AFI MSOY) Panel.
Fryar, 50, is the spouse of Coast Guard CDR Troy Fryar, who is stationed at Scott Air Force Base in O’Fallon, Illinois. The mother of four grown sons, Fryar says she “has a passion for helping ensure no military spouse feels alone. If she or he feels supported and loved their spouse can fulfill their duties better.”
In her quest to achieve that goal, Fryar has spearheaded vital scholarship committees to assist military dependents to attend colleges or trade schools--or to achieve needed career certification and also plays a key role in the military branch of the Mothers of Pre-Schoolers (MOPS) Program specifically designed to support young mothers.
Commenting on Fryar’s achievement, Lieutenant General Stanley E. "Sid" Clarke III, U.S. Air Force (ret.) and AFI Chairman, said, “This has been a time filled with unprecedented events: the pandemic has had substantial impact on our personal and professional lives as well as our nation and the world. Our thoughts go out to those directly affected. AFI remains proud of its long tradition of recognizing the sacrifice and rewarding the hard work of military spouses who continue to inspire others and have a tangible, measurable effect on their communities. Therefore, it is our privilege to officially present Ms. Paulette Fryar with the 2020-2021 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year award. Paulette was chosen after an extensive voting and board process. The competition was tough as all of our branch winners are exceptional spouses who represent their member, family and service with distinction. We congratulate Paulette on her selection and thank her for her service to our country as well.”
