May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

As warmer weather makes an appearance, people are leaving the house and hitting the highways. With distracted driving on the rise, it’s never been more important to share the road with motorists and motorcyclists alike. After being cooped up during the cold months, that first hint of sun leaves all of us feeling excited!

Though we’re all eager to enjoy the open roads, here are some tips on how to properly observe Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month:

  • Motorists must be alert to riders on the road. Take your time, signal, and check your mirrors twice. Nothing is more important than arriving to and from in one piece.

  • Leave enough distance between your vehicle and the rider in front of you. This ensures space in case there are obstacles or necessary sudden stops.

  • Riders: wear protective gear, obey traffic laws, and maintain your ride. Even though the exhilaration of speed is enticing, when it comes to the highways, always think safety first.

  • Take a motorcycle safety course before operating your sweet ride. Give your loved ones reassurance that you’ve learned all the appropriate tips + tricks.

  • Share the roads! To ensure the success of safe traveling, it’s everyone’s responsibility to honor those rights.

  • Most importantly, enjoy the ride! For more information visit www.nhtsa.gov/safety/motorcycles.
